Head Pastry Chef Job

Location: Looe, UK
Salary: £36,000 – £40,000 + TRONC
Contract Type: Full-Time (48–50 hours per week)

Are you a creative and passionate Pastry Chef looking for an opportunity to showcase your personality through your desserts while working in a high-quality, award-winning kitchen?

We are recruiting for a Head Pastry Chef to join a prestigious 4-silver star, 2 AA Rosette hotel in Looe. This privately owned, 21-bedroom coastal hotel is renowned for its stunning views, exceptional service, and refined food offering, with a strong focus on French-inspired English classics.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented pastry chef who wants creative freedom, the ability to influence menus, and the chance to make a real impact on revenue and guest experience.

The Role
As Head Pastry Chef, you will take full ownership of the pastry section, creating visually stunning and flavour-driven desserts that align with the hotel’s style while allowing your individuality to shine.

Working closely with the Head Chef, you will contribute to menu development, including desserts and afternoon tea, with a focus on creativity, seasonality, and consistency. You will also support and develop a junior commis pastry chef through hands-on training.

This is an ideal role for an experienced pastry chef or a strong Chef de Partie ready to step up into a leadership role with autonomy.

What’s on Offer

  • £36,000 – £40,000 salary depending on experience
  • TRONC worth approximately £2,500 per year
  • Opportunity for higher salary for exceptional candidates
  • 48-hour contract with flexibility around 50 hours
  • No pay reduction during quieter weeks
  • Structured working pattern (typically 4 evenings, day shifts on rotation)
  • Consecutive days off where possible
  • 28 days holiday
  • Live-in accommodation available (£300 per month including meals)
  • Creative control within an award-winning kitchen
  • Opportunity to increase revenue through pastry innovation (e.g. afternoon tea development)
  • Supportive, non-micromanaged kitchen environment

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the pastry section independently
  • Design and produce creative, on-brand desserts
  • Contribute to menu development, including afternoon tea offerings
  • Ensure consistency and quality across all pastry dishes
  • Train and develop junior team members
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and food safety
  • Work collaboratively with the wider kitchen team

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in a pastry role (CDP level or above)
  • Strong technical pastry skills and attention to detail
  • Creative flair with the ability to present visually striking dishes
  • Ability to work independently and self-manage effectively
  • Passion for seasonal, high-quality ingredients
  • Positive attitude aligned with values such as pride, perseverance, and patience
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
  • Honesty and reliability (DBS check may be required for live-in roles)
  • Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available)
