Hours: Full-time, 40hrs week between 7am -7pm
Location: Birmingham – Two Sites (Erdington & Selly Park)
Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 depending on experience
Catering Manager – Birmingham (Two Sites)
A well-known charity hospice is seeking a highly skilled Catering Manager to oversee a unified catering operation across two Birmingham sites. This is an impactful and rewarding role where you will lead a team providing fresh, nutritious, high-quality meals that support patients, staff and visitors every day of the year.
The Role
You will manage the full catering provision across two hospice sites, ensuring the delivery of an efficient, safe and cost-effective service. Responsibilities include creating 4-week rotating menus, designing meals to IDDSI standards, leading multicultural menu development, engaging with patients, staff and visitors, and ensuring the catering service positively contributes to the overall hospice experience. You will manage rotas, maintain compliance with HACCP, COSHH, CQC and food safety requirements, oversee ordering and stock control, work with café volunteers, develop commercial event catering options, and ensure accurate audit trails are maintained. You will also provide hands-on chef cover when required, including participation in a rota covering 7am–7pm, 365 days a year.
About You
• Strong catering management experience, ideally within healthcare, care, education or a multi-site catering environment
• Proven experience leading teams, carrying out appraisals, objective setting and performance management
• Excellent understanding of HACCP, COSHH, IDDSI standards, food safety and hygiene regulations
• Knowledge of CQC standards and the ability to work safely with kitchen equipment
• Confident designing menus, planning budgets and managing expenditure
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask, delegate and work calmly under pressure
• Empathetic, patient-focused and committed to delivering an inclusive, caring catering service
• A supportive leader with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Flexible and willing to cover shifts at short notice when required
• Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office
